You Should Correct These 5 Problems During A Remodel

Blog

It is easy during kitchen remodeling projects to think of all the things you wish to change, especially if you're renovating a cooking space that someone else designed. However, it's important to have a checklist of things to correct during any remodel. Including these five items will help you build your checklist.

Poor Lighting

Nearly every kitchen has some flaws in terms of lighting. If you haven't become familiar with a kitchen's issues, perhaps because you haven't used it much after moving in, it's a good idea to get to know them. Deliberately use the kitchen to prepare a few large and complicated meals at night. You will quickly notice which areas are weak in terms of lighting. Make notes so you can discuss the problems with a contractor.

Fixtures and Plumbing

Nearly every kitchen after a few years can benefit from upgrades to both the fixtures and plumbing. Take a look at the lines running into the faucets to see if they're using modern flexible materials. Likewise, see if the drain has any evidence of leaks. If you have the slightest doubts about the condition of the plumbing, this is the time to replace things.

Remember that plumbing can run in lots of directions. For example, there may be plumbing around the fridge to support the water dispenser and ice maker. Anything that utilizes water in the kitchen probably has attached plumbing, so be as thorough in checking for issues as possible.

Walkability

Kitchens can get hectic even if you're not cooking. To tame the kitchen, you should make it as walkable as the situation allows. If there's a large and cumbersome island, for example, you might want to narrow it to improve the elbow room in the rest of the kitchen. Remove unnecessary protrusions and unused features to ensure you're freeing up as much walking space as you can.

Storage

You can never have enough places to store groceries, dishes, and other items in a kitchen. Fortunately, modern storage systems allow you to make the most of the available space. Under-counter systems, for example, often allow people to store goods in recessed or even retractable compartments. A traditional solution like adding a pantry is also a great idea.

Efficiency

Many innovations allow you to make a kitchen more efficient. Aerators can reduce water usage, and LED lighting will lower electrical consumption. New windows can also minimize heating and cooling losses.
